About Irish Setters

The Irish Setter is a breed of gundog, and a family dog originating from Ireland. 

The temperant of an Irish Setter is good with children and other dogs, who are known for greeting visitors with great enthusiasm.  They're an active dog, that require long daily walks, and off the lead time running in wide and open spaces.

Their coat is moderately long, silky and of a red or chestnut colour.  The coat requires frequent brushing to ensure its condition is maintained and to keep it free from mats.

The undercoat is full in winter weather, with the top coat being fine.  The Irish Setter coat should also feather in places like the ears, tail, chest, body and legs.  They range in height fom 61-71cm, with males weighing in at 29-34 kgs; and females 24-29 kgs.  The Irish Setter general life expectancy ranges from 11-12 years of age.

The Irish Setter is also known to be used as therapy dogs in hospitals and schools, as they can crreate a calming and relaxed environment.
